Horizontal PPI Scan

Horizontal PPI scans

PPI is the abbreviation for Plan Position Indicator. It is a type of scan made by a radar or lidar where the elevation angle is held constant and the azimuth angle is changed. The result is a conic section of the atmosphere.

For elevation angles near 0°, like those made with REAL at CHATS, the result is an almost horizontal cross-section of the lower atmosphere.
